How Should Drill Rods Be Stored When Not in Use?

Sep 20, 2024

Firstly, blow the air to clean the water inside the drill pipe, and at the same time, turn on the tail lubrication device. In principle, it is advisable to be able to see the tail lubrication oil at the bottom of the drill pipe.
Secondly, the exterior of the drill pipe, including the threaded part and the main body of the drill rod, must be wiped clean. At the same time, rubber covers should be added to the male and female joints to prevent contaminants from entering.
For short-term storage, follow the following steps:
Firstly, blow air to remove moisture from the impactor;

Secondly, add 1 liter of drill tail oil from the upper joint section;
Thirdly, turn on the air and blow for about 10 seconds to fully lubricate the internal components of the impactor;
Fourthly, like drill pipes, rubber covers should be placed on the upper and lower joints respectively;
Fifth, place the impactor horizontally in a dry environment.
Long term storage, slightly different
Firstly, blow air to remove moisture from the impactor;
Secondly, loosen the upper and lower connectors and disassemble the impactor;
Thirdly, inspect and wipe all internal components, preferably in a clean indoor environment;
Fourth, lubricate all parts moderately with appropriate lubricating oil;
Fifth, assemble the impactor and cover the upper and lower joints with rubber caps;
Sixth, place the impactor horizontally in a dry environment.
To reactivate the impactor, the following three steps are required
Firstly, disassemble the impactor and inspect all internal parts. If some parts are found to have oxidized surfaces, they need to be moderately sanded with sandpaper.
If not tested and put into use directly, it is likely to cause premature failure of the impactor.
Secondly, clean each component, wipe it clean, and lubricate it,
Thirdly, assemble the cleaned and lubricated parts into an impactor and put it into use.
